Ohrid, Macedonia

Unfinished basilica. 14th century temple built of stone and pieces of limestone. This church, with its three domes and wooden arches, paints an exhilarating landscape by one of the most productive artists in the 19th century, Dico Krstev. From this period the icons “Virgin falling sleep “and Entering Jerusalem are one of the most interesting icons, as well as those which depict the figures of St. Clement, St. Nicholas, St. Panteleimon, and St. Naum. The reason why this 19th century temple was never fully painted is still puzzling. Temple which lives with the Orthodox traditions of Debar-Kicevo Eparchy, of the Macedonian Orthodox Church.
