Daut Pasha Hamam

Skopje, Macedonia

Daut Pasha Hamam - Hammam with 13 domes that probably never functioned as a bath. Some say it happened because of lack of firewood. Others believe in a different story ... reason was the death of the daughter of the builder, Rumelia Daut Pasha, who was bitten by a poisonous snake which emerged from the walls of the structure. This hammam is a secular Islamic monumental structure that was constructed in the second half of the 15th century, and located at the entrance of the Old Bazaar. It consists of 15 rooms, and, in each of the room, daily light passes through starry glass openings. Today, this is the National Gallery, a place completely dedicated to the art of painting as well as to the performance of concerts and other cultural events.
