Plaoshnik

Ohrid, Macedonia

Historic textbook carved out of stone. The site which retells a story about the history on the Balkans. In 9th century Ohrid’s patronage St. Clement is building the church of St. Panteleimon on the foundations of early Christian basilica; the ottomans destroy the church and, in its place, build a mosques. In 2000, with the mosque destroyed, building of the church of St. Clement is resumed. Today, this is the resting place of the remains of this great Slavic educator. Rising high on the Ohrid Hill, in the central part of the middle age fortress, Plaoshnik overlooks the blue waters of Ohrid Lake. Even today this place is shrouded with mystery, because archaeologists are still discovering artifacts dating from prehistoric periods.
